Senior Women in Science
Calling all Senior Women in Science…
While women represent half of the scientific workforce, just 26 percent of CEOs are female. We’re unlocking untapped potential and moving the needle with a new network for Senior Women in Science (SWIS).
Research shows that companies with more gender balanced teams outperform their least balanced peers by as much as two percentage points. Encouraging more gender equality at a senior level in science is not just a moral imperative, but good business practice.
The SWIS network exists to inspire and empower women working in the scientific sectors. We meet face-to-face quarterly, providing networking with like-minded women from different companies and sub-sectors of science, sharing experiences and learnings. We also keep in touch through a LinkedIn group to share insights or useful info, on everything from AI pioneers to menopause awareness.
The network also aims to improve the visibility of women in science, helping to inspire the next generation. How often have you attended an event with an all male panel of experts or speakers? SWIS allows women to build their network and learn from other female leaders. This network is made up of women who champion each other, as well as aiming shape new policies on equal representation.
With the ultimate aim of increasing the number and proportion of women in senior positions in science, SWIS is:
Creating a community and support for senior women in science
Helping to increase the visibility of senior women in science, including equal representation at events/panels
Championing other women in science
Building confidence and skills of women in science
Sharing any best practice
“As a female founder of a consultancy specialising in science communications, we are always keen to walk the talk. We have established Senior Women in Science (SWIS), a network to help inspire and support women in this key sector.
Our clear aim is to increase the number of women in senior positions, so contributing to an even greater science superpower which supports our health, economy and society. Through sharing stories and best practice, we build confidence and skills to supercharge progress.”
