From fine-tuning interiors trends and reviewing new land opportunities to juggling show home open days, school playground CSR projects and taking in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, no two days are ever the same for Sharifa Joy, head of sales and marketing at Campion Homes.
Here, Sharifa shares a typical week balancing strategic sales planning, hands-on development launches, team collaboration and family life.
Monday: Launch prep and site walkthroughs
Mondays are all about momentum. We kick off the week by reviewing our weekend sales activity, submitting progress reports and aligning the team for the days ahead.
We have an exciting open doors weekend coming up this Saturday and Sunday at four of our sites across Fife and Perthshire, and it’s a team effort to ensure everything is in place – from making sure accessible homes are well presented to finalising marketing materials and arranging refreshments. Simultaneously, we’re preparing for upcoming show home launches at our newest development, The Temple near Leven in Fife, which means a busy Monday morning coordinating marketing.
Tuesday: Vision to reality – from show homes to new land
The Temple, Campion Homes
Tuesday morning started on site at The Temple, Windygates for a project meeting focused on our two show homes currently completing construction ahead of launching to the public. Working closely with our construction team, we walked through details of the sales area ahead of our launch, including reviewing progress made across build, interior design, landscaping and signage.
Back at head office, it’s time for a shift in focus towards our digital strategy with our senior sales & marketing co-ordinator for our fortnightly review of our social media plan. It’s an exciting time at Campion Homes, with a range of important milestones across our affordable and private housing developments, as well as key local and national events that offer opportunities to share positive news and updates.
To wrap up the workday, I joined our head of land to visit a potential new brownfield development. Exploring future land opportunities is always an exciting task, especially learning about the unique technical and planning challenges involved in unlocking complex sites from the wider expertise in the business.
Wednesday: Industry updates, admin and karate duty
Wednesday morning began with the quarterly Homes for Scotland (HFS) Sales & Marketing call. It’s always invaluable to connect with peers across the Scottish housebuilding sector, and this session offered particularly insightful discussions surrounding the initial release of the First Home Fund designed to support first-time buyers.
Mid-week is usually my dedicated time to clear admin and I enjoy the variety found in covering everything from legal communications and marketing collateral checks to placing orders for our new sales office setup at The Temple.
As the workday ends, it was time for a complete change of pace. I swapped spreadsheet reviews for karate, taking my six-year-old and four-year-old to their class. Most of my evenings involve being a chauffeur service, which I openly love doing. Personal wellbeing is something I’m becoming more focussed on, and I do make sure to have time for myself too whether attending adult ballet classes or going for a run.
Thursday: PR focus, design choices and unforgettable sport
Thursday started with a catch-up alongside our PR agency to outline key focus areas and media opportunities for the coming weeks.
Show home at Oak Bank, Campion Homes
Next, I popped into our Choices Suite to select kitchen and interior finishes for potential view homes on our developments. Being a regional housebuilder gives us a real advantage here as we can react quickly to emerging interior trends. Afterwards, it’s back behind the wheel for another round of site visits, checking in on progress at both Oak Bank, Glenrothes and back at The Temple where things are progressing well.
The day ended on a high note away from work as I took my daughter to watch the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – what a wonderful night full of culture and talent.
Friday: Forecasts, community impact and country music
This Friday morning was busy with commercial meetings where we review development budgets. It’s the more quantitative part of the role but one of the most important.
Community engagement is deeply embedded in our culture at Campion Homes, so I also reviewed our active CSR initiatives. This week, our team carried out improvement works in the nursery playground at Balcurvie Primary School which sits close to our new development at The Temple. It was fantastic to see works completed knowing the children will hopefully be delighted at the start of the new term.
Before wrapping up the office week, I reviewed new kitchen layouts for upcoming developments and ran a final check-in with the sales team ahead of our big open doors weekend.
My Friday evening was spent taking my dad (a lifelong country music fan) to see Luke Combs live – an energetic start to the weekend!
Weekend: Family energy and a moments of calm
I’m now in ‘mum mode’ as the focus becomes about making the most of family time. On Saturday, we headed off to watch the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics final at the Commonwealth Games, as my daughter has a real passion for gymnastics.
Sunday brought a welcome moment of relaxation with a spa day alongside my husband. The weekend is the busiest time for the sales team on developments and my phone is usually nearby just in case the sales team need any extra support, I love to hear their updates, there’s a buzz that comes from sales which is hard to replicate.
